DESCRIPTION:Thank you for joining OBCA for Onancock’s “Lights on the Lawn” Christmas Tree festival at Ker Place. Within the week\, there will be 20 trees displayed on the front lawn of Ker Place in downtown Onancock and I’m happy to report all 20 have been adopted. This puts you all in select company as supporters who can claim: “I was there when they first lit the Christmas Trees at Ker Place in 2020!” \nNow a few details and dates to keep in mind:\n– Trees are scheduled for delivery on Sunday\, Nov. 22 to Ker Place. Trees are 7-8 feet tall Douglas Firs and cut (not balled or potted). Volunteers are welcome to help off-load and place them on the lawn. Contact me at this email or phone if you would like to volunteer someone to assist us.\n– Adopters decorate their own trees and should provide their own extension cords to light their trees. OBCA will provide tree stands and Ker Place is assisting with electrical panels.\n– OBCA is making signs that designate your business\, family or civic group as a tree sponsor. If you have not submitted a tree adoption form or told us how you would like your tree recognized\, please do so by Saturday\, Nov. 21. The signs will be simple white board with black lettering\, leaving you to decorate it as you see fit.\n– Lights on the Lawn debuts on Friday\, Dec. 4\, at 6 p.m. This will be an event\, folks — one in which we encourage you to bring your co-workers\, family and friends to acknowledge your Holiday Spirit.\n– In the spirit of competition\, we will let visitors to the Lights on the Lawn vote for their favorite tree. SUMMARY:OBCA's Believe! - The Onancock Driving Tour
DESCRIPTION:The Onancock Business & Civic Association (OBCA) announces that in the face of COVID-19 concerns and restrictions\, its annual Onancock Christmas Homes Tour (CHT) which the organization has sponsored for the past twenty years will take on a new look and theme for 2020. \nIn the place of the traditional homes tour\, OBCA will instead host a town-wide decorations and driving tour. Ideas so far include a large 20-tree Christmas display on the lawn at Ker Place\, a special tree and bridge lighting ceremony\, and decorated neighborhoods and storefronts throughout town. \nThe Mount Prospect neighborhood anchors the season’s festivities with a special driving tour through their residential streets dubbed BELIEVE! The Onancock Christmas Driving Tour.  It will be held Saturday December 12\, 2020 from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. with a rain date scheduled for Sunday\, December 13. The entire route will be decked out in holiday fun and finery complete with themed highlighted attractions\, including live characters and a live Nativity. \nJust over two miles long\, BELIEVE! The Onancock Christmas Driving Tour will begin at the Historic Onancock School and Community Center located at 6 College Avenue. Santa Claus\, though unable to arrive at the Town Wharf by boat this year\, will kick off the tour at 4:00 p.m.\, no doubt making his usual grand entrance. Children are encouraged to bring their letters to Santa to drop in a special North Pole Express Mailbox at the end of the tour. One lucky letter chosen by Elfie will win a delightful surprise that is not being disclosed at this time. The Onancock Main Street Initiative (OMSI)\, Ker Place and others are coordinating with OBCA to ensure an uplifting holiday season while remaining mindful of the health issues at hand. \nThe Christmas Homes Tour has been able to make a substantial donation to a charitable organization every year since its inception through the sale of tickets. This year fund raising will be dependent solely upon donations. It would be extremely helpful and appreciated for those who are able to make a contribution now\, sending it to:  OBCA PO Box 111 Onancock\, VA 23417.  Contributors are asked to put BELIEVE in the notation area on their checks. Our hope is to make this a memorable holiday season for the entire community.

DESCRIPTION:We are very happy to announce that we have a new exhibit here at the museum called “From Bay to Belly” on loan to us through the end of August from the Watermen’s Museum in Yorktown. We are very thankful to our friends in Yorktown for their generosity and support.  The exhibit describes the processes of getting seafood from the waters of the Chesapeake Bay to your plate and it is quite an interesting and informative presentation!  We will officially unveil this new display this Saturday\, June 12th at noon in the Eastern Shore Watermen’s Museum and Research Center located in the Historic Onancock School at 6 College Avenue\, Onancock\, Virginia.  Entrance to the museum is by donation (any amount is appreciated) and all are welcome to attend! \n— \nDr. Paul L. SUMMARY:Eastern Shore Art League: Free Outdoor Youth Art Experience
DESCRIPTION:Eastern Shore Art League Art Enrichment Day to be Offered. \nONANCOCK- The Eastern Shore Art League will offer a free outdoor youth art experience at the Historic Onancock School on Saturday July 24th.  The event is open to children 12 to 14 from 10am to 12am. Ages 15 to 17 from 1pm to 3pm. \nParticipants at Art Enrichment Day will explore various watercolor techniques\, such as wet into wet\, saran\, salt and others.  Participants will have an opportunity to use various markers and stencils to enhance their paintings.  Everyone will get to take home their watercolor set.  Please do not bring food or drinks. Water bottles will be provided. \nRegister for this event at esartleague.org/art-enrichment-day \nEach group is limited to 16 participants.  All current health protocols will be observed. \nMany thanks to the United Way for providing the funds and volunteer ESAL members who will be teaching at the event.

DESCRIPTION:THIRD ANNUAL CRAB CRACKIN’ \nSaturday\, August 21\, 2021\n4:00 PM  8:00 PM\nHistorical Society of the Eastern Shore of Virginia (map) \nDon’t miss the third annual all-you-can-eat Crab Crackin’ at Ker Place\, presented by Taylor Bank\, on Saturday\, Aug. 21. On the front lawn of the Onancock landmark\, the Eastern Shore of Virginia Historical Society will host the feast to showcase the Shore’s agricultural and aquacultural bounty with live music sponsored by Weichert\, Realtors® – Mason-Davis. This year’s Crab Crackin’ will serve as a fundraiser for the repairing and repainting of Onancock’s Hopkins & Bro. Store. The event will run from 4 to 8 p.m. The menu includes steamed blue crabs; shrimp steam with potatoes\, sweet corn\, and sausage; barbecue; coleslaw; beer and wine (limited quantity of beer and wine included\, with additional available for purchase). Tickets for the general public are $60 each. Visit shorehistory.org/ticketsales to buy. The emailed receipt will serve as your ticket so be sure to bring it with you on Aug. 21. Want to gather with a group of friends or family? A new offering called the “Crab Pod” might fit the bill.
