Town Council Meeting Guidelines

Here are some helpful guidelines for our Town Council meetings:

  • Meetings are held on the 4th Monday of each month at 7:00 PM at the Town Hall at 15 North Street.
  • The Council chambers have a new sound system to ensure everyone attending can hear the Councilors.
  • The meeting can be viewed on Zoom or YouTube if you cannot attend in person.  The Zoom link is provided inside the calendar on this website’s main page.  Simply choose the day and the meeting; the link is there for you.
  • All meeting materials are available in the same place: main page calendar, select the date and the meeting.  All attachments are provided.
  • All meeting materials are also available in the “Agenda and Minutes” section of the Town Council website.
  • If you would like to receive the Council packet by email, please use the “Request for Services” form under the “How Do I?” menu item at the top of the page.
  • Town Council is always eager to hear from you.  Each Councilor has provided his or her phone number and email address on the Town Council website member page.  If you would like to send a message to the Mayor and Town Council, simply send it to the Town Manager and ask that it be forwarded.
  • The Mayor presides over the meetings and tries to follow Roberts Rules of Order.  While this can seem confusing or inconvenient for attendees, it does allow for a more efficient meeting.  This means that speaking from the audience is not allowed, and when you are invited to speak, you must use the microphone provided and provide your full name and address for the minutes.
  • If you would like to present something to the Mayor and Council that requires longer than the 3 minutes allowed in Public Comment, you will need to submit the Request to Present form to the Mayor, and he or she will determine if and when that presentation will be placed on the agenda.
  • Please participate!  The more interaction with businesses and residents, the more informed we are, making Onancock an even better place to live and work.
