The Onancock Police Department is looking for a service-minded, caring person who would like to become a member of our charming community. Our department has up to five full-time officers, serving approximately 1,200 residents in a small-town setting. Onancock is located just off the Chesapeake Bay on Virginia’s Eastern Shore in Accomack County. Close to Onancock are over 78,000 acres of parks, wildlife preserves, and public beaches supporting activities like boating, fishing, hunting, hiking, kayaking, or relaxing.
Benefits
- Salary between $45,000.00 – $65,000.00
- Taken home vehicle, with mileage restriction.
- Holiday pay for 12 days (120 hours) at a double-time pay rate.
- 80 hours of annual vacation for the first five years’ pay.
- Earn 96 hours of medical/sick leave a year.
- 16 hours of personal leave each year.
- Uniform and equipment provided.
- Member of the Virginia Retirement System.
Minimum Requirements
- 21 years of age.
- Citizen of the United States.
- High School Graduate or possess an equivalency certificate.
- Good moral character.
- Have not committed or been convicted of a felony.
- No class one misdemeanor convictions or the equivalent (within the past 5 years).
- Hold a valid state driver’s license and be able to obtain a Virginia driver’s license.
- Must be able to complete and pass Virginia Law Enforcement certification.
- Have corrected vision 20/20 with color distinction.
- Be able to complete Virginia physical requirements.
